Chorus

Every fourth and fifth grade student participates in an all grade chorus. Students meet once a week to rehearse and perform at two concerts (winter and spring.) In chorus, students are taught vocal/choral technique and how to perform together in an ensemble. Choral literature includes folk songs, multiculutral songs, popular songs, and showtunes.

In fifth grade, students have the opportunity to audition for both the All County chorus and the All District chorus. All County is sponsored by the Nassau Music Educators Association (NMEA) and allows for top 5th grade students across the county to perform in a concert together at Tilles Center; usually 2-6 are chosen per school. All District is sponsored by the elementary music teachers in Port Washington and allows for all of our top fifth grade students to perform together in a concert at Weber Middle School. All District is a wonderful opportunity for fifth grade students to perform with future middle school classmates!

In the past, the Salem fifth grade chorus has also performed at a NY Islanders game. Other performance opportunities include PORTFest, local town events, NYSSMA, and other school events.
