About Mrs. Friedman
Mrs. Friedman has always loved music from an early age and her parents even recall her saying that she wanted to be a music teacher since she was in elementary school. (Actually, she even put "music teacher" as her future occupation in her fifth grade yearbook!)
She currently holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education and a Master of Arts degree in Music (with a concentration in Music Composition and Arranging) from C.W. Post University. She also holds a Master of Science in Instructional Technology for Educators from NYIT.
While she can technically play all the instruments (just not all of them professionally...) her main instruments are the piano (classical/jazz), viola, and bass (jazz/rock). However she been known to rock out on clarinet, trombone, baritone, saxophone, guitar, and/or random percussion instruments.
Before coming to Salem, Mrs. Friedman worked at a private school named East Woods and taught Nursery - 2nd grade general music, 6-9th grade chorus, and 5-9th grade drama. She has also worked in many camps over the years including The USDAN Center for the Creative & Performing Arts (director/theater), Robin Hood Country Day Camp (music counselor), Hofstra Summer Camp's Musical Theatre Specialty Camp (Assistant Director/Musical Director), Camp Jacobson (music specialist), and most currently Camp Iconic (musical theatre/digital production specialist).
Mrs. Friedman has a variety of hobbies and of course most of them involve music! She enjoyed playing bass in numerous bands over the last twelve years including: "The B'lights" and "Mary's Laugh." She also enjoys composing and arranging music and has had a few of pieces performed by the Salem chorus and band! One of her main hobbies is musical theatre. She has worked in numerous schools, camps, and community theaters as a director and/or musical director. She also plays in pit orchestras for fun (such as the Port Summer Show).
